Blaise Bell - ADA Research Lead
"Running on the track is very good, but if it is not accessible to the disabled, there's no point.  I will make sure the track is built to fit the needs and requirements of the physically disabled."
Emmanuel Ellerbee - Obesity and Exercise Research Lead
"Obesity is a serious problem in our age group and the world. Lack of exercise and access to safe and fun places to exercise is adding to this problem.  Having a track at our school will allow people to walk/run in a safe environment without causing injury to their bodies."
Dalfred Green - Track Engineering Research Lead
"The type of track material that is chosen for each track affects the speed of the person running on it.  The more springy and durable the track the better."

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE!!!

"I would like to thank everyone for their support at our Walk-A-Thon. Even though the numbers weren't big, contribution that everyone gave made the Walk-A-Thon be a great success. We were fortunate enough to raise $3,800. We are well on our way to getting this track. On behalf of the World Class
Sprinters and the Support Team, we thank you."

About our Project:

The World Class Sprinters is an 8th Grade Dissertation Project who has chosen to do research on the feasiblity of getting a regulated/near regulated track installed at Pin Oak Middle School.   This track will be utilized by both the school and community.   The condition of our current track has made it difficult for anyone to benefit from its use; especially our disabled students during physical education class.

One topic of our research is on childhood obesity and how the community can become involved to help fight this epidemic.  Studies have shown that low impact activities such as running and light jogging done consistently can have a significant positive impact on a child's health and overall well-being.  By providing a track with a soft surface, students and others will be able to use the track for exercise without worrying about causing injury to their joints.

We are also researching the possibilities to ensure that this track adhere to the ADA guidelines.  This will be based on the incline of the access ramps and corner drop offs.  We want to ensure that all people can use this track including those with disabilities.

We are working with a contracting company who specializes in tracks to ensure our final options meet all of the HISD approved construction standards.

In addition to our project research, we are having fundraisers to raise the necessary funds to construct the track.   Our goal is do something for our school that will last for a long time.  Even though we will not benefit from it, we will be comforted in knowing that we have made a difference, prevented future accidents and help other young people to be healthy.

Thank you for your support,
